Hill Top Ruin Environment
Project type
Unreal Engine and 3D Modelling
Date
February 2023
Location
Cheltenham, UK
Using Unreal Engine 4, 3DS Max, Substance Painter 3D, Zbrush and Kiri Engine for Photogrammetry, I created this scene. A hilltop ruin with a central object (the BloodHound statue from Apex Legends, scanned in from Kiri Engine.) Retopology was crucial here as was baking for the rocks and other objects. I also created the grass using planes with normals facing upwards in 3DS Max, and then brought these into Unreal as foliage and added a noise filter over the top to act as wind as well as painted the grass different shades dependent on the colour of the grass below. Overall this project gave me an insight into modular modelling for efficiency, and recognising how powerful this can be in larger scenes with instances of objects. Pushing myself within an engine was extremely insightful too on how to actually implement work into another software. Overall this scene only used 12 assets to create and a world machine file for the mountains.
